Small Things Workshop: BYO Small Upholstered Item
SUN + MON, JANUARY 17TH &18TH, 2027
9A-2P
Bring your own project. Leave with a whole new skill set.
Have a little chair you've been meaning to recover? A bench from the thrift store? An ottoman that's seen better days? This class is your chance to finally tackle it—with professional guidance every step of the way.
In this hands-on workshop, you'll bring your own small upholstered piece and learn the techniques needed to transform it from the frame up. Whether you're breathing new life into a family heirloom or giving a roadside rescue a second chance, you'll leave with a finished piece (or well on your way) and the confidence to keep creating.
Great projects include:
Dining chairs
Vanity or desk chairs
Ottomans
Small benches
Footstools
Other similarly sized upholstered furniture
If you're unsure whether your project is a good fit, just send us a photo before registering—we're happy to help.
What's Included
Professional instruction in a real upholstery workroom
Use of professional upholstery tools
Basic upholstery supplies (staples, webbing, foam, etc.)
Plenty of encouragement, troubleshooting, and bad upholstery jokes
You'll Need to Bring
Your small upholstered furniture piece
Upholstery fabric (available for purchase from the shop at a student discount, or bring your own)
Timeline
This workshop takes place over two 5-hour sessions (10 hours total), giving you plenty of time to learn, work at a comfortable pace, and ask lots of questions. Every project is unique, so some more complex pieces may need a little finishing work at home, but you'll leave with the knowledge and confidence to complete it successfully.
Class Details
Price: $550
Class sizes are intentionally small so everyone gets plenty of one-on-one instruction.
No experience necessary—just a willingness to learn and a piece you're excited to give a second life.
